eGov and SDI: the common grounds and missing links

The scientific and professional community researching spatial data infrastructures (SDI) has largely developed outside of the electronic government (eGov) discussion podia, yet increasingly refers to basic concepts of eGov. I question however to which extent the axiologies and epistemologies of SDI and eGov are related, and whether there are common grounds and possible missing links between the two fields of study. I reviewed 5 prominent eGov publication media to determine such possible relations, using latent semantic analysis (LSA). LSA techniques have proven to derive a broad insight in the main themes of a scientific community for the purpose of content-based positioning in learning networks. Therefore, the results of LSA in eGov publications are compared to the some of the key issues in SDI, to reveal a number of relations and differences of emphasis in SDI and eGov. It is concluded that eGov and SDI research could learn more from each others findings.
